Can I vote by phone or online?
No. In Texas you vote on paper — in person or by mail.
Where do I actually vote? Can I vote from home?
You vote in person at a polling place — a building near you — or by mail only if you qualify. You cannot vote from home by phone or internet.
Why can’t I use my phone in the polling place?
Texas law bans phones and any device with a camera within 100 feet of the voting machines. It keeps your vote private and stops anyone from being paid or pressured to vote a certain way. Look things up before you go, and bring paper notes.
Do I have to pick a party?
Only in the primary. The November general election is open to all registered voters.
Do I have to vote on everything on the ballot?
No. Skip anything you do not know. The rest of your ballot still counts.
I have a green card, work permit, or visa — can I vote?
No. Only United States citizens can register or vote. Doing so as a non-citizen is a serious crime and can hurt your immigration case. When in doubt, ask before registering.
Is my vote secret?
Yes. No one is told how you voted.
Do I need to bring my voter registration card?
No — bring an accepted photo ID. The card is not required to vote.
What if my name isn’t on the list when I arrive?
Do not leave — ask for a provisional ballot and let the workers help sort it out.
I don’t have a car, or I work all day — can I still vote?
Yes. Early voting runs for many days, and there are many locations. In Travis County you can vote at any vote center.
I moved. Am I still registered?
Update your registration, especially if you moved to a new county. Check the “Am I Registered?” tool before Election Day.
What if I’m in line when the polls close?
If you are in line by closing time, you can still vote. Stay in line.
